Who We Are

The Gabriola Auxiliary for Island Health Care Society is a non-profit organization registered under the Society Act of British Columbia. Our mission is to support community health education, healthcare programs and patient comfort services on Gabriola Island.

Our vision is to provide for the variety and accessibility of health care services by raising money through our business enterprises and fund raising activities. Currently, we operate two patient support services (Meals on Wheels & Drivers to Doctors) and two grant initiatives (Student Scholarships & Annual Healthcare Grants). Our primary source of funding for these initiatives is The GABE Shop, a boutique thrift store, which is staffed by volunteers and one staff manager.

Furthermore, it is our vision to accumulate sufficient funds to support major new health care initiatives on Gabriola Island, such as a respite care facility and/or an expanded home care program within the next five to ten years.

The Auxiliary is a volunteer-run organization, utilizing community volunteers to provide our services to the residents of Gabriola Island.

Membership

Become a Gabriola Auxiliary Member

The Gabriola Auxiliary is a volunteer-run organization.

  • All of our members volunteer with the society for an average of three hours per week.

  • Membership fee is $12 per year, payable on January 1st. Your membership fee helps to cover the insurance costs while you are volunteering for GAIHCS.

  • All volunteers who work directly with our clients are required to complete a Criminal Record Check prior to starting their volunteer activities.

Steps to join:

  1. Browse our Volunteering information and consider where your interests and skills could best help us deliver our community programs. If you're not sure, please contact us to have a chat.
     

  2. If you would like to volunteer for a position that requires direct contact with our clients, please  complete a Criminal Record Check.
     

  3. Return your completed application form to The Gabe Shop during store hours, or mail it to us at

  4. Pay your $12 annual membership fee, either by e-transfer to gabriola-auxiliary@shaw.ca or at The Gabe Shop during store hours.

Renew your membership:

  1. Download the membership renewal application form and print it out, or pick one up at The Gabe Shop during store hours.
     

  2. Return your completed renewal form to The Gabe Shop during store hours or mail it to us at
